Key Responsibilities:
Investigation of Major Crimes: Detectives within CID handle investigations related to violent crimes, property crimes, and organized criminal activity.
Evidence Collection: Gather and preserve physical evidence from crime scenes, ensuring chain of custody is maintained for forensic analysis.
Witness and Suspect Interviews: Conduct thorough interviews with victims, witnesses, and suspects to gather information that aids in solving cases.
Case Management: Manage and track ongoing investigations, ensuring all leads are followed and that cases progress through the legal system.
Collaboration: Work closely with other LSPD units, federal agencies, and outside entities, such as forensic teams, to share information and resources for case-solving.
Surveillance & Intelligence Gathering: Use surveillance tactics, intelligence gathering, and undercover operations to apprehend suspects involved in criminal activity.
Court Preparation: Prepare case files and evidence for trial, assist prosecutors, and testify in court when necessary.
Crime Analysis: Use data to identify trends, patterns, and connections between different criminal cases to prevent further crime and improve investigative strategies.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Experience: Prior experience as a law enforcement officer, preferably with investigative or detective background.
Problem-Solving: Strong critical thinking and analytical skills for piecing together complex cases.
Communication: Excellent oral and written communication skills for reporting, interviews, and courtroom testimony.
Attention to Detail: High attention to detail in evidence collection and case documentation.
Knowledge: Strong understanding of criminal law, investigative techniques, and forensic science.
Equipment and Tools:
Crime scene investigation tools (e.g., fingerprint kits, evidence bags, photography equipment).

Work Environment:
The CID detectives may work in office settings, at crime scenes, or in collaboration with other law enforcement agencies. The job often involves irregular hours, including evenings and weekends, especially for active investigations or emergency situations.
